CALL TO ORDER – Madam Chair McGrath called the meeting to order at 2:00 P.M.10 11 Present:12 Library Board of Trustees Members13 Present: Holly McGrath, Chair; Don Heymann, Co-Chair; Mary Glassman, Secretary, and14 Anne Erickson.15 16 Simsbury Public Library Staff17 Present: Lisa Miceli, Library Director; Stephanie Prato, Deputy Library Director/Head of18 Children’s Services.19 20 Other Attendees21 Present: President of the Friends of the Library, Greg Golinski, Kathleen Miklus, Dan22 Sommer, Karen Cantelmo.23 Absent: Jamie Sepa, Davina Fogel, Jennifer Kirkland, Shawn McGlaughlin.24 25 II. ESTABLISH QUORUM OF TRUSTEES26 27 Quorum of Trustees was established.28 29 III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES – JUNE 24, 2026 SPECIAL MEETING30 31 June 24, 2026—Special Meeting32 33 MOTION: Co-Chair Heymann made a motion, seconded by Secretary Glassman, to34 approve the Minutes of the June 24, 2026, Special Meeting. The motion carried35 unanimously.36 37 IV. PUBLIC AUDIENCE38 39 No Public Audience.40 Library Board of Trustees’ Strategic Planning Subcommittee Special Meeting Minutes July 22, 2026 Page 2 of 2 41 V. DISCUSS STRATEGIC PLAN 2027-2031 GOALS42 43 The committee reviewed committee member comments submitted through the shared44 draft of the Strategic Plan and discussed revisions based on community survey45 results. Revisions of Strategic Plan draft and rearranging of goals were discussed.46 47 VI. COMMITTEE QUESTIONS, CONCERNS, NEXT STEPS48 49 The committee agreed that Co-Chair Heymann will:50 • Prepare revised goal language based on committee discussion.51 • Reorganize the goals to reflect committee consensus.52 • Incorporate committee feedback into the next draft.53 • Distribute a revised draft approximately one week before the August meeting54 for committee review.55 56 Next meeting: August 26, 2026.57 58 VII. ADJOURNMENT59 60 MOTION: Secretary Glassman made a motion, seconded by Ms. Erickson, to adjourn.61 The motion carried unanimously.62 63 Madam Chair McGrath adjourned the meeting at 2:59 P.M.64 65 Respectfully Submitted,66 Cameron DiSanto67 Administrative Secretary68 Goal 1 (formerly goal 3) Simsbury Library welcomes all people and fosters social connections and understanding in a safe, vibrant learning community. ● Increase opportunities for civic engagement and understanding through public forums, programming, and opportunities for community dialogue. ● Promote the depth and variety of Library services and resources to encourage deeper and broader patron engagement. ● Create opportunities for residents to share their ideas and talents and to learn from collective experiences. ● Increase collaboration and strategic partnerships with civic organizations, businesses, and other libraries to expand the scope and reach of the Library’s services and programs. ● Communicate broadly, through multiple outlets, to maximize public awareness of Library resources. ● Continue to meet people where they are – ranging from robust family programming to services for homebound residents. Goal 2 Simsbury Library is a safe space for people to explore and access physical and digital resources and technology support. • Ensure Library programs and materials are free and accessible to everyone of all ages, including children and teens who have specially designated areas to help them feel welcome. • Optimize accessibility by presenting programs at the Library, in the community, and online. • Expand access to digital collections, including ebooks, audio books, and streaming content. • Continually evaluate digital access 24/7 to make sure current and emerging technologies meet the needs of the community. ● Offer welcoming and well-maintained grounds and facilities that align with the town’s evolving needs. ● Enhance the community’s knowledge of and appreciation for the natural environment to strengthen healthy connections and community well-being. Goal 3 (formerly goal 1) Simsbury Library strives to be the center of an open-minded community that values and welcomes people of all abilities, cultures and lived experiences. ● Engage the broad community in a process of continual improvement that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion. ● Expand strategic partnerships and collaborations with local organizations that strive to overcome social injustice in the community. ● Strengthen programming that fosters both individual and community understanding of social, cross-cultural, intellectual, and political affairs. ● Provide opportunities for patrons to engage with the visual arts, music, literature, etc. to elevate human kinship and artistic appreciation. ● Enhance and publicize services that welcome and engage new residents. Goal 4: Simsbury Library provides learning opportunities through its business and career center while promoting local economic development. ● Support individual career development and employment by providing informational and skill-building programs. ● Continually disseminate timely relevant information, resources and guidelines to the business community. ● Align with town goals and collaborate with town departments and commissions to support economic development. ● Host programs with local businesses and at strategic commercial and nonprofit sites to raise awareness of local resources and expertise and to spark new initiatives. ● Provide resources for entrepreneurs to encourage business incubation. ● Maintain the Innovators' Workshop to include relevant technologies.
