AGING AND DISABILITY COMMISSION Age Friendly Community Sub-Committee Regular Meeting - Tuesday, June 2, 2026 – 2:30 P.M. Zoom Meeting Jan Beatty, Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 2:30 p.m. PRESENT: Jan Beatty, Ed LaMontagne, Mike Jennings, Libby Easton-May, Cheryl Cook EXCUSED: Valerie Finney PUBLIC AUDIENCE/PUBLIC COMMENT: No one from the public was in attendance and no comments were received. ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES: May 5, 2026 – Ms. Easton-May moved to accept the minutes. Ms. Cook seconded. All voted in favor. OLD BUSINESS • Resource Guide Magnet Discussion was held regarding the proposed magnet. Various options regarding size and contact were discussed. We may need to have a larger magnet in order to fit all of the information and to make it easier for seniors to read. Mr. LaMontagne will forward the final suggestions to Trailhead Printing. • Community Partners Contact Update Mr. LaMontagne stated that he spoke with Kristen Formanek from Simsbury Community and Social Services as well as Kathy Marshall, Senior Center Director. Most of the action items for these two departments have been met or are currently in process. • Contacts Agencies for Aging in Place Expo Ms. Beatty has been working on contacting those agencies that participated in the Expo last year as well as the new agencies that wanted to participate. This process will continue over the summer. The Expo is scheduled for September. • Application for AARP Community Challenge Grant Ms. Beatty shared the excellent news that AARP has accepted our grant application. The town will receive $14,000.00 to purchase MobiMats. The award would include the purchase of the mats, storage receptacle, delivery and taxes. It may be the end of summer before the MobiMats are delivered to the town. Age-Friendly Community Sub-Committee June 2, 2026 Page Two NEW BUSINESS • Resource Guide Book Ms. Jen Seiderer has forwarded Mr. LaMontagne links of documents to be incorporated into the Resource Guide Book. These include, ADA Guide for Small Business, Maintaining Accessible Features in Retail Establishments, ADA Compliant Website Checklist, Simsbury Medical Loan Locker and Disability Laws Overview. Mr. LaMontagne will take the guide to Trailhead Printing for printing. • Update on Revisions/Additions to Action Plan Domain Plans Mr. LaMontagne stated that the Police Department has met all of their action items. A review of the Action Plan will take place to determine which action items have been accomplished and which are still in process. • Caregivers Support Group Discussion After discussion it was determined that the Caregivers Support Group would best be served as an agenda item for the full Aging and Disability Commission. • Aging in Place Expo Summer Prep Ms. Beatty will be working on this project over the summer. Many agencies, while interested, stated that it is too early for planning purposes. • Summary of AARP Age-Friendly Webinar Future Ready: Leveraging AI for Age-Friendly impact This webinar was held on May 12, 2026. Many participants spoke about how they use AI in the development of Age-Friendly Community initiatives.
