DRAFT RESOLUTION 2026-01
(Supporting the McLean ‘Meadow Homes’ Project)
WHEREAS, the Economic Development Commission is established under the authority of the
Simsbury Charter Chapter VI Section 609, codified in Simsbury Code Chapter 9, and is comprised
of members of the Simsbury community having been appointed by the Board of Selectmen; and
WHEREAS, at a regular meeting of the Commission held on September 17, 2025, the applicant,
McLean presented on its proposed development at 75 Great Pond Road; and
WHEREAS, for nearly one hundred years, McLean has stood as part of the fabric of the Simsbury
community, having been founded through the vision and generosity of the late Connecticut
Governor and U.S. Senator George P. McLean; and
WHEREAS, the organization has spent generations caring for older adults while also preserving
the landscapes that make this Town such a special place to live; and
WHEREAS, the dual commitment of McLean - caring for people and safeguarding natural
resources - is evident in the services McLean provides and is also embodied in the McLean Game
Refuge which spans nearly 4,400 acres of land within the communities of Simsbury, Granby, and
Canton; and
WHEREAS, Mclean’s “Meadow Homes” project currently under review by the Town’s land use
boards is designed to meet a clear and pressing need for high-quality homes which will allow older
adults who reside in our community to remain close to their families and support networks; and
WHEREAS, the project’s additional housing units are estimated to add approximately $300,000
in annual real estate taxes to the Town’s Grand List; and
WHEREAS, if approved by the land use boards, the proposed development will strengthen the
Town’s tax base, support local jobs, bring new economic vitality to Simsbury, and add to the
taxable Grand List;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT
RESOLVED, McLean’s ‘Meadow Homes’ project represents a positive economic benefit to the
Town of Simsbury; and
FURTHER RESOLVED, the Commission advises the Board of Selectmen to support this
project; and
FINALLY RESOLVED, the Town of Simsbury Economic Development Commission publicizes
this action on this 28h day of January, 2026.
