AGING AND DISABILITY COMMISSION Regular Meeting January 20, 2026 – 6:00 P.M. Youth Room, ENO Memorial Hall Minutes PRESENT Ed LaMontagne, Jan Beatty, Margaret Haldeman, Anne Erickson, Deb Glass, Terry Henault, Valerie Finney, Libby Easton-May, Mike Jennings, Diana Yeisley (BOS Liaison), Kathleen Marschall (Senior Center Coordinator), Kylie Stillman (Student Representative) EXCUSED Jen Seiderer, Cheryl Cook, Sandee Fleet, Claire Corbett, Kate Robbins, Lisa Miceli (Library Liaison) CALL TO ORDER Chairman Ed LaMontagne called the meeting to order at 6:02 P.M. Mr. LaMontagne began the meeting by stating that the agenda for the November meeting was not received by the Town Clerk. Therefore, the meeting was void due to improper notice. As a result we will need to approve the meeting minutes from the October 21st meeting as well as to approve the meeting dates for 2026. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. PUBLIC AUDIENCE / PUBLIC COMMENT No public comments were received. ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES Regular Meeting – October 21, 2025 Motion: To accept the minutes of the Regular Meeting held on October 21, 2025 (Jan Beatty motioned/Anne Erickson seconded). Status: Approved. REPORTS Board of Selectmen (BOS) Report – Diana Yeisley • Commissioner reappointments scheduled for BOS meeting January 24. • Public hearing for Conservation and Wetlands regarding McLean scheduled for 7:00 P.M. at the Library tonight, 1/20/2026. • Charter Revision public hearing scheduled for January 21 at 6:00 P.M. at the Library. • Referendum scheduled for January 24 (6:00 A.M.–8:00 P.M.) for additional SPAC funding from capital reserves. • Town budget season underway. Budget workshop scheduled for February 21 (9:00 A.M.–2:00 P.M.) at Town Hall with selected board members, town staff, and the Finance Director. Aging and Disability Commission 20 January 2026 Page Two • New town website updates are underway. • 250th Anniversary Celebration Parade scheduled for July 11. • Public Safety Newsletter coming soon. Senior Center Report – Kathleen Marschall • January/February newsletter distributed: https://www.simsbury- ct.gov/sites/g/files/vyhlif9751/f/news/jan-feb_2026_newsletter_final.pdf • AARP Tax-Aide program begins February 12th at the Library • Indoor Tailgate event: February 7th at the Library • Intergenerational program: February 17th, K-Pop Demon Hunters • Veterans Outreach Assistance continues Wednesdays, 9:30am-2pm at the Library Library Report – Lisa Micelli • No report Age-Friendly Community – Jan Beatty Focus areas include housing, transportation, outdoor spaces, and social engagement. • AARP Community Challenge Grant opens this month o Topics: disaster preparedness, aging in place, and safety/transportation. o Potential initiatives include solar tables and Mobi-mats. o Previous grant funded the Oak Hill Smart Home for the Aging-in-Place Expo. • Repeat Aging-in-Place Expo planned for September, again with a technology focus. • AARP Community Partners feedback form to be completed. • Work with Main Street Partnership to verify services like food delivery and pick-up. o Provide window decals to inform the public • Intergenerational programming in collaboration with the high school OLD BUSINESS Souper Thursday 1/15/26 – Deb Glass & Terry Henault • 48 attendees: great menu, gift cards distributed. • Next Souper scheduled for March 12 Social Connections Event – Anne Erikson • Tentative dates: April 12 or April 19. • Potential Presenter, Pastry Chef Kim Hoàng Wood from LeBahn. FY 2025–2026 Budget Update – Kathie Marshall • Budget handouts reviewed. Coffee with Commissioners – Ed LaMontagne • Sign up circulated, scheduled Tuesdays: February 10, February 24, March 10, March 24, and April 7. NEW BUSINESS Sexual Harassment Training Reminder • Commissioners were reminded that they need to take the on-line sexual harassment training and forward the certificate of completion to Franklyn in the Town Managers Office. Aging and Disability Commission 20 January 2026 Page Three Approve 2026 Meeting Dates • Motion: To accept the 2026 Meeting Dates (Libby Easton-May motioned/Jan Beatty seconded). Status: Approved. FY 2026–2027 Budget Proposal • Budget handout reviewed and discussed. Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity & Opportunity (CWCSEO) / Commission on Aging in CT (COACT) Report • Focus on shared priorities and common hurdles among aging advocacy groups • Ed LaMontagne will participate Facebook Post Discussion • Need for long-term planning resources for individuals with special needs, including transportation, legal planning, and trusts. • Discussion held regarding a potential Expo to address these needs. OTHER • Discussion of a potential spring sensory movie event at a local theater. • Nominations for Commission officers discussed. Terry Henault agreed to chair a nominating committee.
