Press Release – Simsbury Police Department Seeks CALEA Re-Accreditation
Simsbury, CT March 18, 2014
A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.
(CALEA) will be in Simsbury from March 30 through April 2, 2014 to examine all aspects of the
Simsbury Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations and support
services.
Verification by the assessment team that the Simsbury Police Department meets the
Commission's state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to achieve accreditation, a
highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence. The Department received
its first accreditation through CALEA in 2011. Accreditation is for three years, during which
time the Department must maintain compliance with standards and submit yearly reports to
CALEA.
As a part of the on-site assessment, agency personnel and members of the community are invited
to offer comments directly to assessors at a public information session on Monday March 31,
2014 at 4:00 p.m. The session will be conducted at the Main Meeting Room located in the
Simsbury Town Hall, 933 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT. Persons may also reach assessors
by phone on March 31, 2014 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at (860) 658-3158, or write to CALEA at,
13575 Heathcote Boulevard Suite 320, Gainsville, VA 20155.
Questions regarding the accreditation process may be directed to the Simsbury Police
Department’s Accreditation Manager, Captain Nick Boulter at (860) 658-3106.
