Ingvertsen Contact: Captain Nicholas Boulter Simsbury Police Department 933 Hopmeadow Street Simsbury, CT 06070 Phone (860) 658-3106 Fax (860) 658-3103 Press Release – Fraud Alert by Text Message Simsbury, CT March 15, 2014 The Simsbury Police Department has received numerous telephone calls over the last couple days from individuals who have received the following, or very similar text messages: [[ALERT] [FROM] [SIMSBURY BANK]] PLEASE CALL US AT 8607916889 TO LEARN HOW YOUR ACCOUNT IS AFFECTED. Or [[ALERT] [FROM] [SIMSBURY BANK]] PLEASE CALL US AT 8606977113 TO LEARN HOW YOUR ACCOUNT IS AFFECTED. These text messages are fraudulent attempts to scam people into providing personal identifying information. The provided telephone numbers have a recorded message from “Professional Property Management” and refer the caller to another telephone number if they are interested in sales, locked out of their residence or need additional assistance. Another provided telephone number claims to be the bank’s fraud department and requests a 16 digit account number. Simsbury Bank has posted a reminder on their website at www.simsburybank.com that they will NEVER call, text or e-mail you and ask you to provide specific card, account or PIN numbers. If you have any concerns, we suggest that you contact your local Simsbury Bank Branch. The Simsbury Bank has provided a contact form on their website or suggests that you call your local branch. If you have been the victim of this or another scam, contact your financial institution as soon as possible to report the fraud and notify your local police department.
