The Simsbury Police Department worked with the State of Connecticut Department of
Mental Health and Addiction Services to conduct tobacco sale compliance checks on
August 18, 2011. Efforts were focused on convenience store settings in Simsbury, some
at which the Department received complaints about suspected unlawful sale of tobacco
products to minors (e.g. cigarettes, cigars and chew/dip). Compliance checks were
performed at the following businesses:
American Enterprises II (Gulf) at 125 West Street
Gibbs Enterprises (Mobil) at 955 Hopmeadow Street
Simsbury Service Center (Mobil) at 404 Hopmeadow Street
Citgo Super Value at 518 Hopmeadow Street
Shell Quick Stop at 12 Albany Turnpike
Infractions were issued at three of the compliance checks for violation of C.G.S. 53-
344(b) Sale of Tobacco to person under 18 years of Age. The violations occurred at:
Simsbury Service Center (Mobil) at 404 Hopmeadow Street
Citgo Super Value at 518 Hopmeadow Street
Shell Quick Stop at 12 Albany Turnpike
Compliance checks, investigations and education will continue to be part of our efforts to
prevent underage tobacco sales and use.
