Public Works
Simsbury’s Department of Public Works was able to provide
mutual aid to Harwinton following July’s severe
thunderstorms. We supplied a tree crew, including our large
woodchipper to assist Harwinton with their cleanup and
recovery efforts. Mutual aid is one of the greatest strengths of
municipal government, and we're grateful for the opportunity
to help a neighboring community in their time of need. Our
Public Works crew represented Simsbury with
professionalism and skill, demonstrating our commitment to
public service. (pictures below)
Simsbury, working with our Board of Education, was able
to execute two (2) Power Purchase Agreements with
Greenskies Clean Energy LLC for solar panels on the roof
of the Simsbury High School and Latimer Lane
Elementary School. The High School system will be a
623.5kW array and the Latimer Lane system will be a
259kW arrays. The combined two solar arrays will
provide approximately 1,076,500 kWh/year of electricity
per year for Simsbury and result in lower carbon emissions
and reduced energy costs. Construction of these two
systems is anticipated to begin in 2027.
Planning & Community Development
Below please find a flyer announcing a FEMA Open House for the Farmington River watershed
(Hartford County) flood map update project. The open house will be held on Tuesday, September
22, 2026 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Avon Public Library (281 Country Club Road, Avon, CT
06001). It is a free event and open to the public. FEMA and state staff will be at the event to answer
any questions and review revised flood maps with attendees.

Culture, Parks & Recreation Development

The Simsbury Parks and Recreation Dept
will host the 5th Annual End of the Summer
Blast Event on Saturday, August 22nd. The
popular event, held at the Simsbury Farms
Recreation Complex (100 Old Farms Road,
West Simsbury), features inflatables for kids,
facepainting, balloon twisting, food trucks,
and a concert by the Shaded Soul band from
6:30-8:30 P.M. The event wraps up with a
spectacular fireworks show over the golf
course at 8:40 P.M. Please follow Simsbury

Join us for the new NEON NIGHTS event at Simsbury Farms Pool on Saturday, August 15th from
6-9 P.M. for an electric evening of floating fun! The brightest bash in the neighborhood will feature
an array of colorful events including neon pool floats and beach balls, a giant water slide, a live
DJ, LED light show, a foam pit, and food and snacks available from the Kona Ice Truck and the
Dough Boys Pizza Truck. Admission is $5.00 per person and will include a FREE glow bracelet
(while supplies last!). Pay at the door.
With the end of the summer season fast approaching, the Simsbury Farms Pools
will close for the season on Tuesday, August 25th. The Parks and Recreation
Department thanks everyone for their support and patronage this summer.
A water bottle filler, with a watering bowl
for our furry friends, has recently been
installed at the Tariffville Green. This is just
one of a number of improvements to
recreational assets that the Town is
investing in Tariffville. New team benches
were installed at the softball field this
spring, other field improvements to the
infield and backstop were completed last
year. The Tariffville Park Pavilion will be
refurbished very soon with a new a water
bottle filler installed there as well.
The new pickleball courts are getting a lot of
use, recently a tournament was held to
celebrate long time Tariffville residents, Phil
and Charlotte Couchon who tirelessly
advocated for pickleball playing opportunities
in Simsbury as the sport grew in popularity.
With the funds the tournament raised, and
generous donations from the Couchon family
and Christine Boswell, new windscreens will
be installed at the Tariffville Pickleball Courts
very soon.
The Parks and Recreation Department would
like residents to know that a major renovation
of the Simsbury Farms Platform Tennis Courts
has just been completed. Replacement of the
screens and court surfacing were key parts of
this renovation project.
Simsbury Historical Society
Build your own scarecrow at this fun community event on Saturday, September 19th from 10 A.M.
to 3 P.M. that's become an annual tradition at the Simsbury Historical Society. Join them on the
front lawn. Pick out your scarecrow frame, dress it, stuff it with straw, and make it uniquely yours
with their provided materials. Cost is $20 per scarecrow. Cash or credit. No advance registration
required.
