Since 1976, SLT has protected the scenic vistas, farmland and geological features and more that make our community so unique. Thank you to the team at Simsbury High School for hosting this year’s 2nd annual Career Fair on April 22nd with Simsbury Main Street Partnership Executive Director Sarah Nielsen, SHS Director of School Counseling Greg Stillman, and Selectwoman Diana A. Yeisley. What an outstanding group of representative careers, from law enforcement, engineering, development, and construction, to new media and municipal government; terrific engagement with amazing students who are taking a look at public service as a rewarding career choice! On April 25th I attended Ethel Walker School’s ‘Waves of Opportunity.’ The School partners with the Horizons Program to bring Hartford youth to one of Simsbury’s most beautiful campuses every summer for a six-week intensive and immersive swim experience! Thank you Walker’s for inviting me to join you as the incoming class, families and staff gathered to build the excitement once again. This has been so impactful in the lives of Hartford girls for the last twelve years and many of the ‘littles’ have returned each year as they grow up which is very cool. On April 26th I was thrilled to welcome ‘Lang Lang Music Foundation Scholar’ and ‘Young Steinway Artist’ TAIGE WANG to Simsbury’s historic Eno Memorial Hall for the 2026 Simsbury Chamber Music Festival. Taige (I have to tell you that he is only 15) is a piano student at the Julliard School under the tutelage of Veda Kaplinsky, and has been playing piano since he was 4! Amazing performance at an ideal venue - and thanks as well to the ‘Halftime Quartet’ a student ensemble from the University of Hartford’s Community Division, who joined Taige. Management Specialist Barrueco attended the Simsbury Performing Arts Center Season Opener at Metro Bis on April 29th on my behalf. New this year for the Talcott Mountain Music Festival (Hartford Symphony Orchestra performances) are the addition of live-action cameras that will add a whole new element to the experience. Get your tickets before they are sold out! ATTENTION SIMSBURY RESIDENTS You will be receiving a letter in the mail from me regarding Energize ConnecticutSM home energy assessments and opportunities for incentives and rebates related to energy efficiency. I encourage you to further explore these resources. Thank you! Congratulations to the International Skating Center of Connecticut (ISCC) who held their Grand Opening for their expansion on Thursday, April 30th and their new space is beautiful! ISCC welcomes more than 600,000 visitors each year and continues to grow as an international sports complex - bringing athletes, families, and visitors from across the country and around the world to our community. That reach creates a unique opportunity not just for sport and development, but for meaningful impact across our region. Our 3rd Annual Simsbury Sustainability Fair held on May 2nd at the Simsbury Public Library was another outstanding success! Engineering Our Engineering team is proud to report that we completed the conversion of Station Street from one way to two-way one day ahead of schedule! Station Street is now open to vehicular traffic, with new sidewalks on both sides of the road for pedestrian use. Public Works Join us at the DPW facility at 66 Town Forest Road, West Simsbury, to kick off the 2026 National Public Works Week with a Touch-a- Truck and Public Works Open House on Saturday, May 16, 2026. Kids will be able to get an up-close look at our Town's trucks and families can learn about our Public Works Department. We'll have giveaways and guided tours of the facility. Participants are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to "Fill-a-Truck." This event is suitable for all ages. Drop in. Rain or shine. Community The Town of Simsbury, Village of Tariffville, American Legion Post 84, and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1926 invite all to the Memorial Day Celebrations on May 25, 2026. Tariffville Parade will begin @ 9 A.M. starting at the corner of Winthrop Street/Main Street and move towards the Tariffville/St. Bernards Cemetery. Simsbury Parade will begin @ 12:30 P.M. starting at the corner of Owens Brook Blvd./Hopmeadow Street and move along Hopmeadow towards the Simsbury Veterans Memorial. Ceremonies to follow each parade. Economic Development Please join me in welcoming Simsbury Yarns back to Town! Simsbury Main Street Partnership held a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony on April 22nd and they are located in Fiddlers Green. Check out their website by clicking here. Sycamore Vintage Home Goods held their open house and ribbon cutting ceremony on May 7th and they offer thoughtfully curated & sustainable mix of vintage furniture, artwork, lamps, glassware, and pottery—each piece chosen for its timeless character and charm. They are located at 2 Railroad Street. Police Department The Simsbury/Granby Rotary Club generously donated $1,500 for two police cadets to attend a week-long police cadet academy this summer. The Club has donated funds to support cadet attendance for the last 3 years. Thank you Rotary Club! We have a new Animal Control Officer (ACO) in Town! ACO Jesse Sawallich started in the position on April 27, 2026 after serving as an ACO for the municipalities of Hartford, Wethersfield, and Newington. The Police Department is sponsoring a public shred event in front of Town Hall on Saturday, June 13th from 9 AM to 11:30 AM!
