Below is a non-exhaustive list of resources for families, individuals, and caregivers. The Town had two (2) independent tree experts inspect the tree and they both determined that it poses a risk to public safety due to the presence of “white rot” which is a fungal condition that significantly compromises the structural integrity of trees. This decision to remove the tree is difficult, but necessary, considering the risk it presents. Simsbury Historical Society As a leading organizer of the Simsbury 250th Celebration Committee, the Historical Society invites you to participate in the many community programs and events taking place this spring and summer. Simsbury Public Library There are two (2) more listening sessions for the 2027-2031 Simsbury Public Library Strategic Planning Survey. The first is on Tuesday, April 28th (7 PM) in St. Mary’s Church. The second is on Tuesday, May 5th (3:30 PM) in the Simsbury Public Library Tariffville Room. Take the survey by scanning the QR code or by visiting the Library. Public Works Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is Saturday, April 25th (4/25) from 8 AM to 1 PM @ the Farmington High School, 10 Monteith Drive, Farmington, CT. This will be the first of the three (3) collections we hold annually in conjunction with the towns of Avon, Canton, Farmington, Granby, and Suffield. Residents from the participating towns are welcome to attend this event in Farmington, free of charge. Please bring proof of residency. Our Household Hazardous Waste collection events provide an opportunity to dispose of items that cannot go into the regular trash, keeping hazardous materials from being deposited into the landfill. Quantities are limited to reasonable household volumes; these collections are not for commercially-generated waste. The Simsbury collection dates are Saturday, June 13, 2026, and Saturday, October 10, 2026. - The Sustainability Fair is on May 2nd from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Simsbury Public Library! Project Updates Station Street One-Way to Two-Way: On March 30th the Town broke ground for the conversion of Station Street from one-way to two-way vehicular traffic. Work for this project will include: expansion of the roadway, new parallel parking spaces, improvements to drainage, modifications to the traffic signal for two-way traffic, and replacement of the concrete sidewalks. The roadway will remain closed for the duration of construction, which is anticipated to be completed in early May. Eno Memorial Hall and private businesses within the area will remain open throughout construction, with the contractor making accommodations for access. If you have any questions for the adjacent properties or businesses regarding access specifics, we recommend contacting their management directly. Firetown Road Sidewalk: On April 20th the Town will commence construction of new sidewalks on Firetown Road. This sidewalk will connect the multi-use trail on West Street with the sidewalk at Plank Hill Road. The sidewalk will also provide a connection between Simsbury High School and Henry James Memorial Middle School, in addition to contributing a safer option for pedestrians walking from the adjacent neighborhoods to Town Center. The approximately one-mile long concrete sidewalk will be constructed along the west side of Firetown Road with a crossing near Belden Forest Court. This project is expected to be completed within the 2026 construction season. Culture, Parks & Recreation Simsbury Community Clean Up Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 25th from 8-10 AM. Join your neighbors as we aim to clean up Simsbury’s neighborhoods, parks, and trails! Sign up in advance for a preferred location at www.SimsburyRec.com. Participants can visit the Town Hall parking lot (933 Hopmeadow St.) between 8-10 AM on the day of the event for gloves and trash bags before heading out to clean up. Full trash bags can be returned to the dumpster and recycling bins, generously donated by USA Waste & Recycling, at Town Hall during the day. Pre-registration is not required, but is helpful to organizers for planning purposes. This event is sponsored by the Town of Simsbury Board of Selectmen, Public Works, and Culture, Parks and Recreation Departments, and the Farmington Valley Trails Council. The new Birdie & The Barrel Restaurant has opened at the Simsbury Farms Golf Course. The Golf Course is open for play and the staff at the Birdie & The Barrel are excited to serve the community! The Simsbury Community Gardens on Sand Hill Road are ready for planting and there still some available plots for renting this season, please visit www.SimsburyRec.com or call 860-658-3836 ext. 3401 for more information. REMINDER: Summer pool passes are on sale and can be purchased at a discounted price until May 31st. Buy your season pass at the Simsbury Farms Parks and Recreation Office or online at www.SimsburyRec.com. Public Works (cont.) We have posted the 2025 Draft MS4 Annual Report, which documents work completed under the MS4 General Permit. The Town of Simsbury is providing this opportunity to engage the community to participate in the review of the Town’s MS4 General Permit. Public review and comment are open until the end of April.
