As proposed, the MIL rate would increase 2.15%, exclusive of any change to the Fire District’s tax rate. The budget adoption process varies amongst towns, but taking a look at some other local communities we see what their currently proposed tax increases look like (subject to change): Farmington: 3.5% Granby: 2.8% Windsor: 4.53% South Windsor: 6.97% Simsbury’s next step in the budget process will be a public hearing before the Board of Finance on Tuesday, April 7th at 6 PM at the Simsbury Public Library. Culture, Parks & Recreation: The Simsbury Farms Golf Course is opening for its 54th season play. The driving range is currently open and the course is expected to open later this week. Simsbury Community Clean Up Day has been scheduled for Saturday, April 25th from 8-10 AM. Join your friends and neighbors as we aim to clean up Simsbury’s neighborhoods, parks, and trails! Sign up in advance for a preferred location at www.SimsburyRec.com. Participants can visit the Town Hall parking lot (933 Hopmeadow St.) between 8-10 AM on the day of the event for gloves and trash bags before heading out to clean up. Full trash bags can be returned to the dumpster and recycling bins, generously donated by USA Waste & Recycling, at Town Hall during the day. Pre-registration is not required, but is helpful to organizers for planning purposes. This event is sponsored by the Town of Simsbury Board of Selectmen, the Town of Simsbury Public Works and Culture, Parks and Recreation Departments, and the Farmington Valley Trails Council. A huge thank you to USA Waste & Recycling, for donating rubbish supplies. A reminder that summer pool passes are on sale and can be purchased at a discounted price until May 31st. Buy your season pass at the Simsbury Farms Parks and Recreation Office or online at www.SimsburyRec.com The Annual Flashlight Egg Hunt will be held at Simsbury High School on Thursday, April 2nd. Starting at 6:30 PM, enjoy dinner from Frankie’s Food Truck, get selfies with the Bunny, and listen to a spring story from the Simsbury Public Library. The egg hunt for ages 2-5 will begin at 7:15 PM and the hunt for ages 6-12 will begin at 8:05 PM. Thank you to the Youth Service Bureau and the Simsbury Junior Women’s Club for their support of this event. The ARK Healthcare and Rehabilitation at Governor's House will be providing free canvas bags and glowsticks (while supplies last). Don’t forget your flashlights! Town Manager’s Office On March 12th I attended the Connecticut Main Street Center and Connecticut Business & Industry Association Building a Main Street Business Ecosystem Summit with Simsbury Business & Career Center Coordinator Cyn Thomas (on my right).
