First Selectman’s Report 11-10-2025 Elecfion Results and Thank-you Thank you to all the voters who parficipated in the November 4th Municipal Elecfion. I’m grateful for Simsbury's trust in me to serve a third term as your First Selectman. I take this responsibility very seriously, and my focus has always been on doing what is best for our community. It’s an honor and a privilege to serve as the town’s Chief Elected Official. Congratulafions to those on the board who are confinuing into the next term: Steven Antonio, Deputy First Selectman; Diana Yeisley, Selectman; Curfis Looney, Selectman; and Kevin Beal, for being re-elected. Their experience will help us move forward by building on the knowledge gained during this last term. Also, congratulafions to Mike Paine, who is returning from refirement (since 2021) to serve the town again as a Selectman. I am sad to see Heather Goetz, Selectman, leave the board, as she was a good friend and a thoughfful partner during the two terms we served together. She’s involved in many other acfivifies, and I’m sure her contribufions across town will not go unnoficed. I want to thank her for her service and dedicafion to the town we all love. Now, we turn back to work—the new term officially begins on December 1st —and we will be focusing on the 2026/2027 Budget, Charter Revision, Goal Sefting, and more. Stay tuned for what’s ahead! I want to thank our Registrars, Karen Cortes and Susan Salina, and their teams and poll workers for making this new early vofing process seamless. From our Registrars: Voter participation in the November 4th Municipal Election was above and beyond anyone’s expectations. During two weeks of early voting at the library, 2,758 residents cast ballots. By the close of the polls on Election Day, turnout was up to 8,477, or 45%. That’s 814 more voters than participated in the 2023 election. We would like to extend thanks to our poll staff who kept lines moving and made sure voters were comfortable with Connecticut’s new voting equipment. Together, they worked 126 shifts during early voting, and another 45 on Election Day. Thank you to Brett Marchand and Mike Perrone for their IT support throughout the early voting process. Thank you to Matt, Brad, Derek, Bryan, Izaias, Jake, and David for handling equipment logistics and facilities for us during our two weeks at the library. And to Franklyn, who picked up our additional ballot order in the middle of Election Day. Special thanks also to Bryan and Izaias on our custodial staff. A special thank you to our Head Moderator Liz Keppel, the dynamo who drove 147 miles on November 4th - without ever leaving town - in support of our moderators and poll workers at each of our voting locations. She kept the wheels from falling off the bus on an extraordinarily busy day, making sure ballots were stocked where they were needed most. We could not have made this election without every one of them. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Karen Cortés and Susan Salina, Registrars of Voters Related Note on the next session As our Chief Elected Official, I sit on the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities’ (CCM) Policy Board. We have submitted our Legislative Agenda, which includes a request to reduce the number of early voting days from 14 to 7 to ease the strain on our towns' resources. We also asked for additional funding to cover these costs. This will be presented to the General Assembly in the next session. Keep an eye out for their schedule at the State Capitol and follow State Rep. Melissa Osborne and State Senator Paul Honig on developments. Trevor Briftell Promofion to Sergeant On Friday, the Board of Selectmen was invited to attend the promotion and swearing-in ceremony for Sergeant Trevor Brittell at Eno Memorial Hall. Sergeant Brittell has an impressive military background, including tours in Afghanistan and service as a Sergeant First Class in the Connecticut National Guard. He also holds a comprehensive education in Justice and Law, along with extensive leadership training. He previously served as the Student Resource Officer at Simsbury High School, where he was widely loved (long after my kids' time there!). This is only a small glimpse of his contributions to our Police Department. Congratulations on a job well done - we are very fortunate to have you as a vital part of those serving our community and keeping us safe. Swearing in and Organizafional Meefing on December 1st Our new board and commission members will be sworn in on December 1st at Eno Memorial Hall during the Swearing-In Ceremony. The program is being prepared, but please plan to aftend if you are being sworn in or if you would like to be there as part of the audience. After the swearing-in, the new Board of Selectmen will handle essenfial business to kick off the term, including appoinfing the Deputy First Selectman, assigning Liaisons, establishing the 2026 meefing schedule, discussing the Rules of Procedure, deciding on aftorneys, and more. Interval House Breakfast of Champions Table I want to thank this group of women leaders in Simsbury who have filled my table for the last 4 years and donated their fime and money to their cause. Heroes Playground Ribbon Cufting Please join us all this Thursday at 1:30 PM at Weatogue Park for the grand opening of the Heroes Playground! It is located in a much more convenient spot than the old playground and features branding with our Simsbury Police, Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company, and Simsbury Volunteer Ambulance Association logos, along with fun elements related to our emergency service. Moving on to Thanksgiving Mabel is happy the elecfion is over and will do her best to serve as Simsbury’s First Dog. She’s looking forward to some family fime, with turkey, coming up faster than we imagined. Feel free to reach out to chat, for impromptu office hours, or to grab a coffee.
