The tower has a new spire, plaque commemorating the rebuild, gold accents, and a fresh paint job! We will be holding a ceremony to celebrate the updated tower before the next Board of Selectmen Regular Meeting, on September 8th at 5:30 PM, in front of Town Hall. On August 7th I visited the residents of the Powder Forest Homeowners Association to discuss current happenings in Simsbury since I became the Town Manager in January, 2024. Thanks for having me Jerry! I also attended the Simsbury Performing Arts Center 20th Anniversary Concert on August 9th. It was packed! Simsbury Community Media: I would like to take a moment and thank Pat Fallon for all of his work with SCM throughout the years. His last day was August 8th and we wish him luck in his next venture. He will be sorely missed! Human Resources: Please welcome Abby Boyer, our new UConn HR Intern, to the team! Abby is pursuing a masters degree in Public Administration and loves to ride horses. Culture, Parks & Recreation: On July 16th I attended the Tariffville Park Pickleball Courts Ribbon Cutting Ceremony along with First Selectwoman Mackstutis, Board of Finance Chair Heavner, Selectwoman Yeisley, and Selectman Looney. End of Summer Blast at Simsbury Farms Simsbury Farms will be the place to be on Saturday, August 23rd from 5-9 PM as the Culture, Parks & Recreation Department’s signature annual event, the ‘End of Summer Blast’ is held. This community event is free to attend and will feature inflatables for kids, face painting, balloon twisting, a concert by the Rhythm City Band, and a spectacular fireworks finale. There will be food trucks on site as well from Hilltop Grille, Frankie’s Food Truck, La Joya, I Know A Guy, Dippin’ Dots, and Ben & Jerry’s. The End of Summer Blast is presented this year by the Ethel Walker School and the Friends of Simsbury Farms. Burgers on the Bridge The Old Drake Hill Flower Bridge Committee’s popular annual fundraiser will be held on Wednesday September 10th from 4-6:30 PM at the Old Drake Hill Flower Bridge and Hop Brook Landing Park. Come and enjoy delicious food and drink with your friends and neighbors while supporting the Old Drake Flower Bridge! Simsbury Recreation Dept Fall Programs – Fall recreation programming is open for registration at www.simsburyrec.com. Library: On Wednesday, July 30th, Public Works co-hosted the Simsbury Public Library’s popular Story Town with Head of Children's Services Stephanie Prato. This year was even more successful than in past years with one hundred (100!) kids and adults in attendance for songs, stories, and then time to explore a variety of our trucks and equipment. It was a hot day, but the kids were full of energy and really loved getting to jump into the driver’s seat for a moment. Additionally, our Police Department and Chief Nick Boulter held his own ‘StoryTime’ at Town Hall on July 16th! Police: SPD hosted a Rabies Clinic on June 7, 2025 at the Weatogue Fire House. Animal Control Officer Deb Clark coordinated a regional effort with 7 municipalities (Avon, Bloomfield, Burlington, Farmington, Simsbury, West Hartford, and Windsor) and arranged for veterinarian services to provide rabies vaccinations at a significantly reduced cost. In total, there were 120 rabies vaccinations for dogs in 27 towns. Of those, 24 vaccinations were for Simsbury dogs and ACO Clark was able to license 10 dogs in Simsbury. The funds raised through the veterinarian service are donated to assist regional animal control officers with animal medical needs. School Resource Officers Mike Lantiere and Chris Sheahan accompanied 3 of the Simsbury police cadets for a weeklong cadet academy at Westfield State University in July. The annual academy is designed to provide youth ages 14 to 20 with a variety of life and field experiences, education, discipline, career insight, and connection with peers, mentors and the law enforcement community. The SPD cadet program had been going strong for about 25 years. Students between age 14 and 20 commit to the opportunity to learn about contemporary policing, volunteerism, life skills and engagement. The Police Department hosted the annual week-long Junior Police Academy during the first week of August. This academy has been offered to youth in the community for 25 years and designed to provide learning and social opportunities between our youth and our police. Attendees learn about the three first responder groups that make up the major portion of emergency services (police, fire, and medical), to include first hand practical experience in areas such as enforcement, fire suppression and medical aid. The program would not be as successful as it is without the tremendous support from the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company, Simsbury Volunteer Ambulance Association, and other regional emergency responders. Public Works: The pond in Town Forest Park has been drained to allow for dredging. The bottom of the pond has been dug up to prevent the pond from being choked by sediments. Materials have been removed and deposited along the banks, where they are drying before being trucked off-site. These efforts will ultimately improve water quality, returning it to a cleaner, healthier pond suitable for recreational activities.
