El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant has recently opened up in place of where Subway used to be at Simsbury Town Shops. Check them out! The Second Annual Sustainability Fair is Saturday, May 3rd from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Library. There will be BINGO, art, jewelry making, and a trade show! Frances Hill turned 100 years old on April 4th! Wendy and I attended a Senior Center Supper on April 8th congratulating and honoring her. On April 17th, the Chamber of Commerce presented Public Works Director/Town Engineer Tom Roy with their 2025 Public Servant of the Year Award! Congratulations Tom! Department of Public Works: The Household Hazardous Waste Collection scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025, will be held from 8AM to 1PM at the Farmington High School, 10 Monteith Drive, Farmington. This event is open to residents of Simsbury, Avon, Canton, Farmington, Granby, and Suffield. Staff will guide you as to where to go and how to dispose of the items you bring. Proof of residency will be required. You can find more information here: https://www.simsbury- ct.gov/public-works/pages/household-hazardous-waste-collection. Water Pollution Control: Engineering Inspector Ed Schwentke has completed the certification to become a Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII). The CPII certification program is for individuals who inspect the construction of public infrastructure (e.g., roadways, highways, utilities, bridges, dams) and facilities (e.g., pump stations, treatment plants, water storage facilities) and other types of construction work and materials to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. Great job Ed! Police: Please welcome our two newest dispatchers! Kevin Ziegler joined us in late February and Emily Nado joined us within the last 2 weeks. They will both train with experienced dispatchers within the department for several months and attend classes for technology needed for their positions. Culture, Parks & Recreation: Simsbury Community Clean Up Day – The Culture, Parks and Recreation Department and the Public Works Department will be hosting the annual Simsbury Community Clean Up Day on Saturday, May 3rd from 8am-10:30am. Those interested in taking part in this event can sign up and get more information at www.simsburyrec.com. Participants can choose to help clean up a park, trail, street or neighborhood. Participants can pick up trash bags and gloves from the Town Hall Parking Lot on starting at 8am, there will be a dumpster in the parking lot where trash and litter picked up can be deposited. This event is sponsored by the Town of Simsbury Board of Selectmen, the Town of Simsbury Public Works and Culture, Parks and Recreation Departments, as well as the Farmington Valley Trails Council. A huge thank you to USA Waste & Recycling, for donating rubbish supplies. Now Is the Time To Buy Your Pool Pass! – With the warmer weather finally getting here it is time to start thinking about getting your family’s pool pass! Season passes to the Simsbury Farms pools are discounted only up until May 31st. Season pass options are available for families, individuals and senior citizens. Pool season passes can be purchased online at www.simsburyrec.com or in person at the Parks and Recreation Office at Simsbury Farms during business hours. Buy early and save! Town Clerk: The Town Clerk’s office will be closed for the day on April 24, 2025 for the Connecticut Town Clerks Association conference.
