Town Manager’s Report

Town Clerk:
Our Assistant Town Clerk Jen Espinal is leaving us to become the
next Granby Town Clerk! Congratulations Jen!!! She will be
sorely missed.
Also, please note, the Town Clerk’s office will
be closed on Thursday, April 24th for the annual
CT Town Clerk Association conference.
Police:
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies
(CALEA) reviews our police department compliance with national
accreditation standards on an annual basis through a remote or off-
site process. Every 4 years, an assessor will visit the department to
conduct an on-site review. CALEA Assessor Eric Kerns (Retired
Assistant Chief from Burlington, NC Police Department) arrived in
Simsbury on March 9, 2025 and stayed through March 13, 2025.
Assistant Chief Kerns conducted a review in many areas through direct observation of our
facility, our activities and by interviews. He toured the department, participated in ride-alongs
and the Citizens Police Academy and he interviewed a variety of members throughout the
department, members of the community, the Police Commission and the Town Manager.
During his exit interview with command staff, Assistant Chief Kerns was complementary of the
entire department. He stated that it is clear to him that the “right person is in the right seat”.
Chief Kerns highlighted the department’s community resources and contacts as an important and
successful asset. He informed the command staff that he found compliance throughout his
review and we are looking forward to his documented report within the next month or so.
Library:
The Library will hold an Open House for the Innovators' Workshop
Makerspace on Saturday, April 5, 11AM-2PM.
The Library, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council, and Aging & Disability
Commission will host a Sweet Connections intergenerational facilitated
conversation program on Sunday, April 6, 2-3:30 PM.

Community Planning & Development:

Open House!
Board of Finance & Budget:
On March 11th, the BOF set the FY26 budget public hearing for April 8th at 6 PM in the
Simsbury Public Library! You can learn more about the budget process by clicking here.
Historical Society:
Now with warmer weather approaching, the Historical Society has some
great events planned! On April 3rd (7-8 PM) join Central Connecticut
State University Professor Kenneth Feder at the Library to talk about the
Farmington River Archeology Project and 12,000 years of native history.
Also, on May 3rd (10 AM – 3 PM) see live demonstrations at the
Historical Society and learn about crafts, tools, and trades of the
past, including blacksmithing, chair making, chair caning,
weaving, spinning, flax spinning, cooperage and timber framing.
